What to know about the HP Color LaserJet CM1312 Mfp printer using Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP compatible toners comes down to understanding that one will be getting what is known as ""all-in-one"" or multifunction printer capable of also scanning and copying. Additionally, Hewlett-Packard has delivered his printer at an attractive price point that makes a competitive with many other higher-end printers. Its print quality is excellent and it is also fairly speedy, which is something unusual with multi-functions at this price point.

Print shop quality comes to the 1312 multifunction at a price, though that price is very slight when one stops to think about it. To get that quality, one must be prepared to accept about 12 pages per minute of monochrome printing and eight pages per minute of color printing capability. While the machine is no speed burner, that probably won't be the aim of most users of this particular HP printer.

Print resolution as far as the copier is concerned is handled at about 600 dpi. Anything that emerges from 1312 will come out looking sharp, crisp, clean and clear. As a copier, the machine can enlarge any copy up to four times its size or reduce it down to one quarter of its size with no trouble at all. For best results, print with HP toner.

From the time the print job is sent to the 1312 until the time the first copy emerges is about 25 seconds for a black-and-white about 31 seconds for a color copy. This isn't exactly quick, but it's print quality will be uniformly excellent, which is probably what Hewlett-Packard intended for it to do by slowing down its production until the machine could produce something excellent across-the-board.

Keep in mind that the 1312 is a multifunction printer that can also scan and copy. This means that Hewlett-Packard has had to design certain compromises into the model, though it really does do all three of its functions quite nicely. When one considers that it is reasonably priced, one will be happy to accept a scanner that can handle 1200 dots per inch resolution, which is actually above the standard of most other machines in this price point.

Memory contained within this multifunction unit is a standard 120 MB with no way to upgrade, but that isn't much of a problem because most multifunction printers sold by HP and other units sold by other manufacturers in this market segment all come in at about the same memory rate. It's also easy to hook this printer up to either a Mac or a PC, because it uses a nice high speed USB connecting port.

Durability with the 1312 is excellent, and it has a monthly maximum duty cycle of around 30,000 impressions. This means that the 1312 will be able to copy or print up to 30,000 sheets of paper before it will need any sort of maintenance. Additionally, it can hold about 150 sheets of paper within its tray and will be able to print out on the wide variety of stock such as transparencies and envelopes. It runs off of a number of different Windows or Mac operating systems as well.

Taken altogether, the HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP printer does it all and at a price ($350 for a fresh, refurbished unit) that's sure to make the owner of a small office/home office business stand up and take notice. It isn't the fastest printer on the market, but that's not the rule this particular unit was built to take on. It is very durable and produces high-quality product, which actually is the role it's meant to fill. You will need to have extra toner on hand. This will allow you to keep printing when ink runs out. You can either get your toner from a store, or online. Always remember to replace compatible toner regularly.

Beware of the number of copies out of a cartridge though. I was told by one HP tech it was 10K per black cartridge and then another said 2K per cartridge! At around $80 per cartridge - that is .04 cents per page! Adds up fast for large volume printing offices.
