Priced at approximately $180, the HP LaserJet 1020 printer using HP LaserJet Q2612A toner cartridge is already considered very affordable. It is specifically designed for personal use that you can acquire one basic compact laser printer. It is true that it doesn't include those features founds in more expensive printers but it is definitely a good alternative for the old inkjet printer.

The machine has a footprint of 14.6 by 9.5 inches. This is a very compact laser printer because it only uses one toner cartridge. It weighs around 11 lbs, which is pretty light compared to other laser printers. It has input tray with adjustable paper guides and its tray can hold 150 sheets.

The printer designed for personal use. This means, it does not have any networking capability or duplex printing feature. The printer offers basic functionality like any other personal laser device.

It is able to print 14 text pages per minute and has a maximum resolution of 600 by 600 dots per inch. The printing speed is not going to amaze anyone, but a software called HP FastRes 1200 can definitely spice things up by improving the overall quality of the prints.

The printer is powered by a 234 MHz and a 2 megabyte memory. The processor is fast enough, but the memory is limiting its potential. In fact, most of its counterparts use a 32 megabyte memory so that this will not happen.

A 2000-page yield toner cost around $70, which makes each print cost around 3.5 cents. The printing cost is pretty good for an entry-level laser printer. If you think it cost too much, spend around $100 more and you will be able to get a printer that can print pages for as low as 2 cents. The 5000 page monthly cycle is enough for most home users.

The HP LaserJet's text quality is excellent. You will have a hard time spotting any smudges or imperfections. You will barely notice any discoloration with pictures and text. The contrast is perfectly regulated and resulted to excellent printing quality. However, when it comes to photo printing, you might want to reconsider since this printer is only designed for text and simple images.

This printer can work with Windows 98SE, Millennium, 2000, and XP. It can also be connected to a computer with the use of a USB cable. If you want to use it as a network printer, you have to dedicate a specific computer in order for others to use it. It isn't designed for networking. This HP printer has a one year warranty with technical support representatives available 24/7 via phone. You can also access the company's website for information.

HP toner is really affordable that it is more appealing to customers. Other than that, it also provides quality prints at an affordable rate. This toner cartridge is definitely a great buy due to its price and printing quality.

I'm seriously looking at these details.

I have a uncharacteristic problem with my Laserjet 1020. When I try to print from vista, the first page always comes out with dark stripes located on the right side of the paper. These stripes are always aligned with the texts that appear on the paper. Even more peculiar, these stripes only appear on the first page only, not on the rest of the document. I also tried to print two copies of a first page and I got the stripes on both document. Then I tried to print the same document on XP and it prints fine.
